George Thomas was born Dec. 29, 1866 in Hyde Park, Utah. He received his B.A. and M.A. from Harvard, and his Ph.D from Halle University in Germany. e became Superintendent of Public Instruction for Utah in 1921, but resigned in July 1921 when offered the presidency of the University of Utah.
